Anaerobic digestion is a biological process that generates a gas, mainly consisting of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). It is also called biogas. This biological process occurs in the absence of oxygen and organic waste is used; this includes food waste, livestock manure, etc.
Landfills majorly contribute to global warming, being the largest man-made producers of Methane gas. When food waste is disposed in a landfill, it starts to rot and becomes a major source of methane production.
